FKM-Mecha Rhino Tops UMP Inter-Faculty Sports League 2017
Kuantan 13 May – The team from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering or better known as FKM-Mecha Rhino emerged as the overall champions in the UMP Inter-Faculty Sports League 2017 after winning 2 of the 3 events, namely, the UMP Super League for football and the UMP Super Five for futsal.
Apart from emerging as the overall champions this year, this was FKM-Mecha Rhino’s 4th consecutive win in which one of their players, Muhamad Amirul Bin Che Azis, won the Best Player Award for UMP Futsal Super Five 2017. The first and the second runners-up were the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering’s FKEE-Dino Thunder and the FKKSA-Polar Power.
FKM-Mecha Rhino once again outplayed their closest title challengers FKEE-Dino Thunder in the UMP Liga Super with a 7-goal advantage which gave them the title for the third consecutive year. The FKM-Mecha Rhino captain, Aminudin Bin Pi Remli, was named the championship’s Best Player while Muhammad Arief Fahmi Bin Zainuddin from FKP-The Gryphon emerged as the Super League’s Top Scorer of 12 goals in 7 matches which helped his team to become the second runners-up in the UMP Super League 2017.
Meanwhile, in the UMP Netbusters 2017, the team from the Faculty of Computer Systems and Software Engineering or the FSKKP-Arctic Fox emerged as champions after beating their challengers from the FKKSA-Polar Power. The third place went to the FKASA-Civer Dragon. Zarifah Binti Mohd Haris from FSKKP-Arctic Fox was named the Best Player of the UMP Netbusters Netball League 2017 this season.
The UMP Inter-Faculty League which entered its 4th year in 2017 has become a platform and medium for the selection of athletes to represent UMP. Its success has made a huge impact when the UMP team emerged as contenders in major championships at national level organized by the Malaysian University Sports Council or Majlis Sukan Universiti Malaysia (MASUM) and Liga IPT or the Higher Education Institutions (HEI) League for football.
