UMP Silat Athletes Won 2 Silver Medals at the 8th International Pencak Silat Championship (the Deputy Prime Minister Trophy) 2017
UMP Elgineers Pencak Silat team members, led by the Centre for Sports and Culture of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) staff, participated in the 8th International Pencak Silat Championship 2017 (Deputy Prime Minister’s Trophy) from 2nd until 7th of May 2017 at Universiti Teknologi Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia in Batu Pahat, Johor.
“Lawan Tetap Lawan”, were the team members’ words of encouragement which can be literally translated as “Fight, We Will”, constantly kept the the UMP Elgineers Pencak Silat Team on course to winning medals at the 8th International Pencak Silat Championship (the Deputy Prime Minister Trophy) 2017 organized by the Pusat Sukan Tumpuan Silat, Universiti Teknologi Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. The championship involved a total of 500 participants from 24 higher education institutions (HEIs) of 6 countries and was recognized by the Federation of National Silat of Malaysia or Persekutuan Silat Kebangsaan Malaysia (PESAKA) and the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia.
The fighting spirit and teamworking among UMP silat athletes paid off with the success of clinching the SILVER medal in Tanding Putera I category by Mohd Safwan bin Mohd Amin and Tanding Puteri E by Siti Nor Azrin binti Nor Azli who battled their way to the final competitively among other elite silat athletes.
Both wins have boosted the spirit of the UMP Elgineers Pencak Silat Team to continue to compete in future competitions and win more medals in the next Championships.
